Unique, family owned garden center located in the heart of the Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge.
Owner Michael Beneduce is a third generation grower who learned the business at his grandfather’s farm stand, “Amato’s” on Shunpike Road in Madison. At only 19 years old, he purchased this property in 1978 and began to build the greenhouses from the ground up. He and Casey married (reception was in the greenhouse!) in the winter of 1984.
Mike and Casey’s daughter, Justen Beneduce Hiles, is the General Manager of GSG. She graduated with a B.S. in Agricultural Sciences from Rutgers University in 2008. She is also one of the owners of the family’s winery- Beneduce Vineyards in Pittstown, NJ, where she resides with her husband.
The youngest of the Beneduce’s is Kevin, who recently graduated from Penn State with a degree in Horticulture and Landscape Design. Kevin is currently working alongside our Shrub Manager, Tina, and our two shrub experts, Ryan and Jay, who carries the badge as one of our longest standing employees- starting in 1993.
Karin is our Houseplant and Tropical Manager and Amanda is our new Perennial Manager.
John (Doc) is our grower at our Gillette location and Shawn, who has been with us since 1992, manages all of our greenhouses at our Pittstown location, which serves to refill our retail garden center during our busy seasons.
